Well if you want decent pulling power and payload whilst being family friendly i think its pretty hard to go past the pajero. Pajero is also the most relaible out of all the options , hence why mitsubishi has kept it going for so long. Its a soild platform
well the misses has decided that a jimny will be fine now time to get one.
but with the d2a doing a head gasket and the auto due to go soon its time to move it on before it cost's more then its worth to keep going
so looking 2012 or newer atm under 200'000km
so I have taken 2 pajero's for test drives now one exceed and one gx and both were nice but the road noise on coarse chip roads is horrible after 20 mins it was giving me and the misses a headache, and i thought the d2a was bad with the crappy window frame's for wind noise but least it wasn't road noise
One had highway Tyre's the other had at's very little difference between the 2 in regards to difference in noise.
so is it just the nature of mono-cog body and they haven't isolated the the k frame's and suspension enough?
Also we took one manual and one auto and the auto at idle and giving it too it was much harsher in the cab and you could feel the engine vibrating, which is strange as the manual had over 200k while the auto was under a 100k, it's all most like the manual had fluid engine mounts and the auto had nolathane mounts.
also took a pajero sport for a drive and it was much quieter then a pajero but where the pajero cab felt a little squishy in the sport in felt tiny (but slightly better then a wrangler) and the seats were terrible both mine and misses back was sore after 20mins driving,
oh and who ever designed the center console needs to be shot to
challenger felt like an upgrade over the pajero sport in the inertia design and function if not looks and would of been the pick imo but the seat doesn't raise enough to get my legs comfortable.
also have taken 2 fj cruiser's for drive's and while quieter then the pajero and felt fine to drive and easier to get out of the back seats then d2a about the same getting in for me and harder for the misses, they have this strange rear end wobble on bumps where it hits a bump and wobbles to the left in the rear and is a bit unsettling, also both felt like the shocks where knackered which for 100k you wouldn't think so
Took a Prado for a drive as well and its by far the best so far had the best ride was very quite with very little road or windnoise and the most comfortable seat's, but that bloody d4d with how you are meant to change the injector seat washer's every 40k to stop combustion getting into the oil gallery that the injectors sit in causing sludge build up on the oil pick up, and also the injector lines needing to be replaced every 100k or so as the metal must be crap and they erode then put metal through injector, the petrol seems to be the most reliable but i would need a yellow one so i could call it barney gumball as it would be big yellow and drink a lot.
so will have to find a d4 but think i d3 may be better way to go with the v6 exploder engine
anything else worth looking at? dual cab utes are off the list atm
The ford exploder engine ain't half bad in the D3s. Especially for the prices they go for now [emoji106]
Ain’t that the truth. I recently picked up a decent D3 TDV6 for under $10k. It should complement the D1 300Tdi nicely!
well one half of the equation is now complete and made the misses very happy as she has a Jimny now and loves the little rocket, and must say its very well built.
still tossing up what to do for 2nd family car/4x4 if its to do both will prob be ether a fj cruiser pajero (if i can find one that is not loud in the cab) or parado but they are mostly too expensive.
or ill get a territory for family duty and something cheap for more serious off roading
The previous owner of my D3 bought an FJ looser and regretted it, harsh ride, crap seats and thirsty - if he wasn't locked into a lease he would have kept the D3.Quote:
