Queensland has, without doubt, the worst rural roads in the country, by a country mile in fact They might be OK in BrisVegas and surrounds but once you're more than 200km out the roads are appalling when compared with other states. Need I mention that the Gold Coast is forging ahead in replacing Sydney as the 'Crime Capital of Australia' ? I guess crims like the warm weather too.

Yeah, and they are mostly blow- ins from the deep south.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

How long since you have actually driven up here? Or are you just repeating an urban myth.

Two weeks ago Bob, I frequently travel through rural and outback Queensland where there are 'Development Roads' which are basically a goat track that doesn't meet Australian standard for a road but can be called a Development Road to to avoid national compliance to standards. I put this down to years of no fuel excise as charged by all other states (which went into road development) but not in Qld where Joe boasted "cheapest petrol in Australia". He was right, but the state is still paying the cost today.

If you drive our outback roads, you will realise we are the most decentralised State in Australia, with more area to cover than any other. Even W.A.. when the entire state is taken into account. Victoria fits into our state many times. Development roads are , in the main, reliant on Federal funds to " develop them " I'll get back to you on the fuel excise.

When I arrived in 1988 I asked why all the four wheel drive vehicles. Usual response was that the roads were so bad a normal vehicle would last long. Today I look out my window and I see a road so full of subsidence , patches and gravel in fill , and yet only 8 km from the cbd.

Add to that Kidman Way, Mitchell Highway, Kamilaroi Highwaym, Castlereagh Highway and the Newell.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
