Out of work again

Im in IT/Telco also, absolutely no increase in the wages in the past decade. Having been forced to contract work the situation is worse as the big banks drive the daily rate down (roughly 7% last financial year in the case of CBA) this cascades across the industry to IBM, Fujisu CSC and the like. Its a death spiral. So much for being good corporate citizens, they are killing off local hires as we are not on a level playing field with 457 visa holders. And these wages are 'sent home' and not spent in the local economy.

The problem is their has been no jobs growth since the late 90's so with more people coming into the workforce everyday and with baby boomers not yet retiring.
the government to cover this up has changed the employment reporting to cover this up, if you work for 1 hour in a paid or unpaid position for the previous 4 weeks and have to of applied for a job in that time too or you are not counted

That's fine if living in a truck suits you, and you pass your eye test, and you like dealing with the robots from VicRoads and the RMS, and you aren't in your nearly mid 60s, and all of your truck life has been spent in the same industry so that your contacts are worth something, and you are physically capable of doing the work of a 40 year old, and you are happy missing the various birthdays, graduations, concerts, and other family things that most people consider necessary chores. If taking whatever is there is your criterion for anyone who is out of work then I guess you have a point.

I can do all that again, but I'll be 64 in six weeks, and I don't want to.

Find me a job in a truck that pays well enough and doesn't involve interstate and is in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne that will employ a nearly 64 year old with certain work related disabilities and I'll agree you have a point.

In the meantime, please keep me informed about this "senior position yet to be created" you mentioned. Perhaps you could interview me. Surely you have been in this game long enough to know when someone is shooting you a line.

There are plenty of yocal job`s out there as i just found out and one of those is resaonably paying one in your neck of the woods down the hill also Dyer`s are also looking for local and country drivers i have a interview with them next week [bigwhistle]

Most of these mob`s are over the 457 jocky thing and look upon experience and age very favourably [wink11]
So unless you are in my shoes dont judge me as i am just fine thank you [tonguewink].
I have a few window`s of interest on the go at the moment .

Its not their fault for not retiring.
Its just they are still the largest demographic still in the work force and with no growth in actual amount of jobs since late 90's early 2000's it means the attrition of workers is less then new workers coming in.
its why real unemployment rate is around 10% not 5% it is also why their has been no or little wage growth for the last decade.

add to that private debt is at all time high's their is no growth left in the Australian consumer which is why the Australian government is running a deficit to try and keep us from officially going into a recession but we have only been just scraping by with out going into a recession but we have had no growth

also Australia's economy is becoming specialized which is a way of saying its not very complex we around around the 160th most complex economy so if your not in retail, service, or pulling something out of the ground your industry in shrinking or does not exisit anymore
