Recovery tracks - do you own them and do you use them?

I ended up buying some multitrax (muputrax) which are the fibreglass mesh tracks. Although heavy, they came with various bits to make up a bench seat and table, so have used them to sit on and eat off, but have yet to recover my 4WD with them. I have seen another owner use them as a bridge on their farm and was impressed with their strength. I will continue to carry them as I often travel alone and don't have a vehicle winch. I do however have a hand winch, and if you have ever used one will know it is more than enough reason not to try stupid stuff and get stuck!

We are currently in the process of replacing all the old steel grid mesh walkways / stairs / platforms etc at work with FRP (fibreglass reinforced plastic) mesh. Very strong, won't corrode, and not all that heavy.
We buy it in sheets and cut to suit requirements, so plenty of off-cuts. [biggrin]

I've got a couple of lengths of it in the back of the work ute, and a couple more in my trailer. Don't think I'd go as far as bolting a couple up on the roof of the Disco [bigsmile] - but I've got plenty of the stuff for when we go out in the bush - usually have the trailer on to bring back firewood etc.

Cheaper then buying Maxtrax or Treadz and work just as well for my requirements. So far - have only ever used them under the trailer though to reverse it in through some soft ground to get closer to a tree I had just cut into blocks.

I carried hi lift jack around central Qld for nearly 3 yrs...never needed it.

Never needed recovery tracks.

Never needed a winch. I carry(ied) a come-a-long in lieu...never needed it.

Never needed my recovery gear....the straps have never been unrolled, slings apart from one are still plastic wrapped.

I have this strange alert system in my brain stops me from going forward into known bad situations.

Yep.....I always take the chicken track.

You should never need recovery tracks on the Simpson , nor on Googs tracks.

It would be interesting to see how that flooring fares after half a dozen Relines [thumbsupbig]

why not just have a couple of lengths of wood like 2x10 and just router some grooves in it, when they get worn out or broken you have fire wood and get some more wood and make anther set

You can always get out the chainsaw or the axe and chop down the bush in a national park Just like in the Ol Days as well [bigwhistle]
A set of 2x maxitracks/Treads is about $300, Far cheaper than a tow truck or the damage caused by an ill thought out recovery and you get to use them more than once [bigwhistle]

I rate maxtrax highly ,
Have had a set for 7 years now and they have probably been used 20times, maybe half getting myself out when I had a pajero with 18" fairly low profile rubber. Now towing a van off-road I've used them to get the van across soft ground in tight tracks. They are a safer recovery method in sand imo. Much easier on the gear than snatching

Sounds a bit like the Birdsville mailman who used to carry a couple of long round poles. When he got into trouble the poles would be jammed between the dual rear wheels and he would then simply drive up the 'track'.

I just bought an aldi set.

Just noticed there is a brand called X-Bull on ebay which is cheaper again, with a newer design and a treds ripoff. Rated at 5T and 10T somehow! Aldis are rated at 2T, though they look like they'd work better as a bridge.

Not sure whether to take the aldis back and get some X-Bull - i can't find any reviews on the aldi ones!

I have a couple of pieces of this (1500 x 300) Never used them for debogging, but they're there if needed. They form a table at the back of the vehicle which folds up.
