    Simple, an engine that is too small for the vehicle and an absolute bastard to work on (compared to an American engine), reasonable handling (unlike any American vehicle), well located switches, gearstick etc. (unlike any European vehicle), beautiful body work, soft suspension and with plenty of dead trees and dead animal skins in the interior. But most importantly an undefinable 'soul'.

    Reminds me of the time recently when the wife of one of my brothers in law was fiddling with the dash display in their Mitsubishi and managed to convert the entire display to Spanish! She couldn't fix it and had to go to the dealer and get it changed back to English. Caused a few jokes at her expense.
