Vintage guitar ....anyone here interested in helping value it?

A family 'heirloom' in the form of a Gibson 335 electric 1962 original condition needs to be valued. Obviously getting someone who is in the know about early 70s and late 60s gibson guitars would be ideal. We have had one appraisal today from a knowledgeable fellow and would be interested in hearing of anyone else , especially here since there are a few musical types, as to its value and possible market if BIL decides it is time to move it on. He hasn't played it in years and was first purchased in 1970, from a fellow muso in QLD by FIL

I am not an expert on ES335's but vintage Gibsons are never cheap.

Research carefully before selling, some vintage stuff can bring in very big money.

    Pics would be helpful.

I will have a look at some au prices if you like.

Keep it! It will never go down in value.
Saw 5 for sale just then the cheapest was 16k USD and it was medium condition.
I would imagine $20-25k AUD would be a ballpark figure if in good condition.

Okay finally something I can be more help with around here rather than always taking The reason I have hardly done anything to my Disco in the past 7 years is because of music...I'm in a band called My Dynamite (lol shameless spruke) and my other guitarist is an expert on these things so I will ask him.

It looks great, and the first thing I'd say is put that original tailpiece back on it. They're not that great but I'm tipping it's the original tailpiece and not the new shiny looking tunomatic bridge and stop tailpiece that are on there now...unless someone screwed all those holes into a vintage Gibson after the fact to put one of those crappy vibrola things on it and then took it off to leave a bunch of exposed holes and put a non original bridge and tailpiece on it...in which case they should be flogged in the village square! Like cars, no one likes a vintage guitar that's been messed with, so if he's got the original bits then put them back on before trying to sell it.

Looks tasty though, and my guess is it'll be worth more than most of our Discos haha but I'll get a more expert opinion.

    Thanks!!

The tailpiece is a flash gordon tremolo circa 64. Was removed by a luthier in the 80s for some tidy up work and the custom made badge that was there was misappropriated at the same time... trying to find a replacement at present . Genuine badges are about $300+.
The tailpiece is with the guitar and in good condition however the finish isn't correct apparently. The story is that yhe same luthier tried to refinish it and it looks not right now as per the pics. A bixby tailpiece may have been on originally however when my FIL bought it in 70 it was fitted with the current removed flashgordon one.

If you want me to pm you my wifes contact details she is the best person to talk to about it.

Last night she even got a call from someone in Sydney who was prepared to fly down and look/ buy based on pics alone😮.

Anyway BIL (who actually has ownership ) is out of contact until 20th working remotely so nothing more than valuations etc are being sought at present. He may or may not decide to sell it depending on how he feels☺
