    Council workers

For the past six weeks a section of road opposite my place has been closed for resurfacing due to damage caused by the construction of a new block of flats. Very nice. The road is now single lane , two traffic controllers operating three remote boom gates 24 hours a day. Now after 90 minutes work the road crew dropped tools for smoko ! Word is at least another week til the road is fully open , and it is less than a hundred metres long.
If this were a council crew the resulting outcry would have seen this done much quicker I bet.

They would put this crew to shame. I wasn't on a road crew but my time as a council worker was based on results. We had to give good reasons for not completing our tasks on time . Often worked harder their than most places of late.

Still on smoko ! They worked for a shorter time, willing to guess they will still be staring at the hole over Christmas.

I don't think anything is done the relevant authorities any longer. People used to laugh about council/waterboard/main roads crews leaning on their shovels while one bloke worked. At least the jobs got done in a reasonable time. Now that everything is contracted out it seems to take forever to get anything done and water pipes explode at the first heavy rain because nothing is maintained. The government is taking the **** out of all of us.

They pulled the pin a little while back . Seems the substrate wasn't up to scratch for the curb and gutter , all gone. If the work doesn't meet the council requirements the council should take over. Word is this us costing 17 k per week just for the tc's , and the rest of the street is a pot holed mess .

Presumably the flat construction people are paying for this. I would have thought the council will have had a bond paid up front for just this eventuality.
