Yes I do... and in a threat situation my family are a far greater priority than ANYBODY else... including myself.

So if I have to make a split second decision it will always fall in favour of them... and then if the situation allows to others... in a cascading scale - friends, colleagues then strangers...

I make no apologies for that stance either...

I totally get having guns as tools as required.

What I don't get is why civilians are allowed to carry high powered, military grade assault weapons.

This article seems to make sense to me - The fantasy behind America's mass shootings

And I say again what situation where you live, would cause you to go down that path? All of us would protect our families, as much as we could. I really think you have been watching far too much television. A threat situation? straight out of the American preppers playbook. Tell me this. In all of your life, living in this country, how many times have you had to actually live out this fantasy? And that is what it is.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Go back and read the thread, instead of jumping in.

No need to go back and read the thread Bob, I have been following it since it started, and anybody is allowed to "jump in" whenever they want.

Anyway back to my question, why is it a copout ?

20 dead in Texas Church shooting

    Not at my current location...

You mean when robbed at knife point?
Or when a gang came out of the local park threatening my wife and myself and the group we were walking with?
When I had a firearm shoved in my face?
When my son and his friend were assaulted and robbed by a group that wanted their scooters?

No.. I’ve never had any reason to step up...

The AR15 isn't "military grade." They are not select fire rifles, they are semi automatic.

Go to NZ, you'll find plenty of Ar15's in circulation.

Or Bob, when in Sydney as a young Pusser, out on the town with a few shipmates.. in uniform, and we were set upon for no reason other than our uniforms/career choice....

And yes Bob... whilst by no means am I a prepper by the USA definition, I am prepared.

Why? Because a while back - we had no power in our City for 4 days..

No fuel, no grocery deliveries to shops...

What did we have? Fights breaking out over food stuffs at shops... fuel thefts from unattended vehicles....

If certain parts of society can DEvolve that quickly then it’s easily possible to have it escalate..

    So we have:
Fuel for genset- changed monthly to keep it fresh.
Vehicles are kept with no less than 1/2 tanks - enough to go away for a while.
Dry and canned food stocks for 2 people for 2 weeks.
Camper always ready (we can just go camping)
A reasonable amount of batteries for radio, torches etc.

    No weapons.....

I was however playing with a nice selection of hunting rifles at a friends farm on Sunday..
Tools of trade - used for vermin control..

    This one packs a kick:
