25km/h

I hear you Rolly. Anytime I go past someone who has pulled up, I slow down and if possible I change lanes or move over as far as practicable to give them some space. Been on the side of the road a few too many times with dingalings driving past playing chicken.

Ah, but do you slow from 110km/h to 25km/h?

If I am in the closest lane to the action I have been slowing to 40kph for the most part, unless signposted different, ie roadworks/accidents etc. This new ruling will catch some interstate travelers out for sure. It would have caught me out if I hadn't seen it here. It's a bit of a lottery with road rules when traveling from state to state anyway if you aren't up to speed with them (no pun intended).

Eevo - I agree that the safety of all emergency workers should come first.
Unfortunately the roads i travel on are not arrow straight and have many bends that limit your distance vision - there are many spots that going from 110km/hr to 25km/h would cause more accidents, and possibly cause more hazard for the emergency services workers.
All the new road barriers and safety ropes along the freeways would also start putting emergency workers in harms way - preventing them from getting further off of the road.
Talking to a few different police officers about this - they have so far witnessed more crashes and injuries caused from the slowing down to 40km/hr than emergency workers have been injured by not slowing down.

Maybe the rule should be slowing to half the posted limit rather than 25km/h in SA and 40km/h in other states.
before the law came in, I used to slow to 70 or 80km/h. A speed well received by emergency services personnel judging by the friendly waves I got whilst passing them.

Slow to a sensible speed. With sensible speed menaing enabling you to stop if required of course. Which is the same as if we are at 110 or 10kph[bighmmm] Running up someones backside puts who at fault. As an occasional bike rider I have mentioned that to a few people at times when they have tried hard to kill me.

someone suggested the 40k speed limit is in all states.....I'm not aware of it in Qld. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
