I actually believe the opposite though....
Touch as much “dirt” as you can..
Get that immune system kicking along nice and hard...

All these “hand sanitised”, clean freaks, seem to spend a large portion of their time with some kind of cough, cold, sniffle...

Those of us that played in the dirt, got filthy, and just got out there seem to rarely get as sick.

At least if you weren't the unlucky kid who didn't get antibiotics for the horrible infection he picked up in the knee graze and died.

There is a large amount of anti vaxx bull**** out there. The flu vaccine covers the 4 most common strains of flu. There are often more than 4 strains of flu around. I missed the flu vax last year, I got the flu. I missed the flu vax 16 years ago, I got the flu. This year has been particularly bad for flu. It depends on what strains are selected. As for the govt being cheap. Not true.

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

The shot does give some protection but only against old versions of the flu. Due to the regular virus mutations the vaccine will never protect against the latest version of the flu and hence is always out of date. The Australian version is being used is usually not the latest either. Saying that if it is available and free some protection is better than none if you are prone to it or in the at risk category.

Well that would have “tickled” THE DREADED LURGIE...(flue)

I remember the only time other than Detol was a tetanus shot after I stepped onto a roofing nail that had been set up as a man trap. Went clean through my right foot! So we figured a shot was a good idea THE DREADED LURGIE...(flue)

Yep... and at home when I was a kid, if an infection clearly turned to blood poisoning (which is what would have anecdotally killed the anecdotal kid with a knee graze and no antibiotic?), as evidenced by the dark streak up a vein - mum would have us soak the wound in a bucket of dettol/water as hot as we could stand for a few hours at a time.

    No doctor, hospital, antibiotics...

Consider yourself fortunate that modern knowledge and remedies were available in your growing up time. For comparison just look at 19th century graveyards or if you're game in any war torn country where the medical system is kaput.
