That's exactly the point. It got changed because of political correctness. Death by a thousand cuts.....

There is an alternative. 4zzz in Brisbane which started the 100 , broadcasts its show on New Year's Day. I think this year it will be a live show from the Triffid in Newstead. A great show .

How many members participated in the survey??

I did and I suggested New Years Day......acknowledging that it would cut out all new songs released in December.

It was good listening to the announcement and talkback from 3-6pm today. Good discussion from both sides of the fence.

Yeah I’m not convinced either way.......although I did suggest 1 Jan if there was a date change.

Problem is in 2019 it’s going to fall on Australia Day, I’ll be annoyed if it gets changed again.

I believe Australia.....if not the only country but one of very few that run anything like the hottest 100 where the punters vote stand. I remember listening to an international artist say it’s an awesome thing and wished more country did it the hottest 100 way.

Either way I’ll still be voting on the 10 December.

I reckon it would be far more practical, inclusive and just smarter to move Australia day, and hence the Hottest 100, to a particular Monday or Friday (preferably later in the year when there aren't as many holidays), or 1 January (then the 2 January is also a public holiday).

Most people easily remember that the Melbourne Cup is the first Tuesday in November, so remembering another Monday or Friday would be easy - especially when people know they get a day off!

I always find the debate between politically correct and plain old correct fascinating!

We only consistently started to have Jan 26 as Australia Day and a public holiday since 94. So only a 1/4 of my life has been different and to be honest I would prefer it was moved.

There are lots of reasons for it on the political side which anyone who knows what I post on the Uluru topics would know.

The obvious one though is that no business gets anything done until after Australia Day for the most part. Everyone just leaves any decision making til then, knowing they will have another holiday
