there was a bloke in newcastle that finished making one years ago, had it all done and ready to go! but when they went to launch it, it slipped out of it's harness while lowering into water and it smashed on the rocks...

    cheers,

    ROTFLMAO

Why is it that other's people's misfortune or wasted effort is so amusing.

(Probably the same reason why people have been watching kids fall off bikes or people get hit in the nuts for years on crap like Funniest Home Videos)!!

Did the boat builder neck himself?!

Near Williamstown at the mouth of the Yarra where my boat was moored when it was first launched, there was for a while a concrete boat that had cracked while being launched. Some months later it set off for Geelong under power in a dead calm, towing its dinghy. About half way there it sank (the owner, by himself on board took to the dinghy and made his way ashore) - local gossip suggested that it may have had some help in sinking. Certainly that solved the repair problem.

Later, when I had my boat in Westernport, a concrete boat there hit a buoy (HARD), and although they beached it before it sank, it was low tide and it filled as the tide came in. It was a writeoff, although when I saw it another man had bought the wreck refloated it, brought it ashore, and was refitting it.

If you see some Navy barges around Spectacle Is in Syd Harbour, you will see they hav CAL XXX on the bow. CAL stands for Concretre Ammunition Lighter. They're used to ferry munitions from Spectacle and Newington arms depot ( before the Olympics ) as they are non-sparking and non-conductive.
