Non-Landy most-hated cars

Oh I forgot the Mrs' Jackaroo.

Now it wasn't a bad car per se. Pretty comfortable to drive BUT it had some sort of bizarre loom problem that makes the TD5 oily loom look like a minor inconvenience.

And the injectors were reknown for failing AND cost about $1,000 each to replace (bloody common rail diesels..) IF you could find someone to do it.

The two local Holden dealers flat out refused to work on Jackaroos of any kind for any reason,. They just wouldn't touch them. The DEALERS for chrissakes.

I'm a bit younger than most of you, so can't sympathise with the morris, XB or kingswood owners.

My wife owned a 96 daewoo lanos she bought off her parents. They put a new engine in it at 80k. We didnt have any major problems with it until it got a pin hole in a radiator hose and we blew the head gasket. It was just awful to drive though. There was no feel to any of it. Just numb and boring. I hated it.

It still drove better than the mazda 121 metro box that my parents had. That thing was a bit scary.

Yeah i read it. And i sympathised with you, having owned one. Its my most hated car (that ive owned - the bug eyed nissan micra deserves the most hate), even though my experience was better than yours. Would never ever own one again. Id rather a lada niva [emoji14]

Back in the eighties, one of my clleagues bought a Nikki for his daughter........................

Worst car I ever had was an Opel Omega - think German Commodore - I think a 2000 model, 4 cyl.

The bastard caught fire, although not terminally. The PCV hose is too close to the exhaust manifold and apparently has a reputation for breaking down, which results in oily vapours spitting on to the exhaust manifold, which then ignites the oil, creating lots of smoke and a small fire. Luckily it went out when I closed the bonnet again.

Funniest part though was walking in to the Opel dealer spare parts department and saying 'Sprechen ze English' and watching the salesmen bolt for the nearest door. The one unlucky fellow left looked like a deer caught in the lights.

I think the hose cost about 5 euro to replace.

My brother had a VW Karmann which also caught fire in central London in the mid 70’s. It was totaled, best thing that could have happened from all accounts. They did have a reputation for catching on fire.

Ford Anglia 105E. No power, no handling, no brakes, incapable of keeping water out, noisy, uncomfortable, wouldn't start without a very generous dose of Aerostart, it drank nearly as much as my Rover P6 (delightful car when it was going) and for good measure it rusted while you watched. Horrible piece of work. Horrible. Even more horrible than a Triumph Herald I VERY briefly owned.

Not really - naive, and believed the advertising. And it was cheap. He thought a new car would be reliable!

Had to rush off from work to rescue her when it broke down every couple of weeks!
