Who on here has Factor 5

Factor 5 is a blood disorder that causes blood clots. I found out about 5 years ago that I have it, when I went in to hospital over night for Laser surgery on my Postrate & came home with 4 clots. , inherited it from my father ( he did not know he had it & died from a blood clot that went to his hart ) & one of my 2 daughters has it. The doctor 1st put me on Warfarin which caused me to almost bleed out one night in my sleep. I was then put on Claxane injections twice a day into my tummy fat. I can now not go on over a 3hr flight or drive for more than 2hr's without stopping to walk around for a bit, with out giving my self injections for 2 weeks before I go & wear pressure stockings.

The reason I am asking is that my knees are getting to the stage were I will need knee replacements & am not sure weather it is worth taking the risk compared to not sleeping at night due to the pain in my knees. So was just wondering if any one here has Factor 5 & has had this op. I am off to the doctor tomorrow to see if I can have an injection in my knees to see if that will work for a while , He did say about 6 years ago the next step is the knife.

I sympathise with you. My evil sister ( dont ask) has this disorder and also has a brain disease called MELAS. It was supposed to kill her within 5 yrs but that was up 4 yrs ago. Bugger. She has a lot of ulcers on her leg which dont heal up. They wanted to take her leg, but bcoz of the blood disorder she would bleed out if they keep her on warfarin but with out the warfarin she would die from blood clots. Clexane helps but she cant take it for too long.

Clexane is not a long term medication Ask your doctor about Xarelto.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Well been to doctors , no injections in my knee's but some anti inflammatory to take to see if it will fix it. Don't like my chances , he gave me these same pills 7 years ago & didn't work then.
So next step if they don't work is X Rays ect & appointment to see surgeon in new year . My doctor assures me they will take steps to make sure I don't get any clots.
