I love the smell of fish & chips

I filled up the Disco this morning with B100 Bio-Diesel at Marickville, at $1.24 per litre (thats 10c cheaper than dinodiesel), that's the first bonus, the smell makes you hungry, and the second bonus is no black smoke .

It's to early to say anything about fuel economy or power, it seems to be a bit quieter and smoother at idol but thats about it at this stage, so i'll keep you informed as to economy and power soon and whether or not i need a filter change (i have a spare handy) and i'll drain the filter every now and then to keep a eye on how dirty it might get.

Well so far so good, the 3rd bonus is i'm doing my bit for the environment

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

    Hey there Baz

I might be trying the bio in the Defender soon too. Can I get it with vinegar and a slice of lemon?

PS - I've been following our Defender around in one of our other 4by's to observe the exhaust while it's under acceleration. No black smoke to speak of!! Was your TD5 smokey to begin with?

    Cheers

    Yep lots of vinegar

Yes i have it chipped  and it does blow a bit of smoke more than normal, so this is good now with no smoke, just for that reason i'll be buying as much as possible, i'll be looking into 44s for storage too as soon as we move into our new home.

Dont store it for too long - microbes and stuff eat it you know :!:

    Especially if it smells yummy.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

How is bio diesel better for the environment? Just as much Co2 an Co goes into the atmosphere - don't know about the other pollutants - just because you don't see as much smoke doesn't mean it is not as polluting.

In making the original oil then converting it to bio, does it use less energy than making diesel from crude - I certainly accept the advantage of using a waste product from the fish and chip shop. But then in theory at least you can make diesel from recycled shoppin bags or other recycled plastic.

I am actually working with some people who are building a plant in Ipswich to do just that. They want our plastic waste material to make diesel fuel.
Apparently they have a contract to supply the Brisbane City ferries with fuel.

They want all plastic waste, including shrinkwrap and styrofoam, plastic milk containers, plasticised paper and labels are ok as well.

They turn every thing into a carbon based ??? and then reconfigure it into diesel.
One plant is operating in Japan?, the Kiwis are looking also.
