Sorry Justinc, just a joke. More about the point of how far do we want to take punishment.

Well that time of day again . The monied horns on their way home from work , ripping up and down the road in their late model v8's , Harley's and twin cabs. Not one seems to be a p plater and all vehicles well outside my budget. Maybe untouchables ?
Anyway this will continue for another hour or two as usual , til the next workday commute for the rat runners.

Helmets are a good thing but I would expect airbags do a better job these days - it’s all about reducing impact. Personally I’m not entirely convinced about frontal head restraints (neck brace). These are designed to reduce neck extension in an impact thus preventing basilar skull fractures. They work well in a frontal impact, but not many impacts are front on in a rally car. Again I think airbags would do a much better job in a road car.

I’d have a 6 point harness over a lap/sash belt any day. I have no scientific evidence to back that one up and modern pre-tensioned belts are pretty good. However, having been in fairly significant impacts wearing both I know which I prefer.

That said all these items are designed to work together as a system. A FHR wont work without a helmet and at least a 4 point harness and a decent seat is part of the equation too - preferably with wings to deal with side impacts.

Trust me though you wouldn’t want to be putting on a helmet, FHR and doing up a 6 point harness just to go to the shops. A lap/sash belt you’re wearing is way better than any of the other stuff you’re not.

    Cheers,
    Jon

i disagree with the title. I assume senseless is referring to the speeding part. speeding or "going fast" can be quite fun. it's the reason we watch v8 supercars or the f1 or dirty rally cars.
there is a time and a place but calling it senseless means we have failed to understand why it happens. and until then, we will continue to see it happen.

People clearly don’t get the message or care at all. I drove 100+ kms to Sydney airport this morning leaving home at 4am, the last part of this trip on the M7 and M5 motorways. I was ‘cruising’ at 95-100kms in my defender and was being passed by vehicles doing in excess of 130kms, including a semi! One guy I followed for a while was having great difficulty staying between the lines or at a consistent speed.

So much for double demerits being a deterrent. Didn’t see a cop car anywhere...

    Stay safe people..
    Cheers

    Hmmm.....

I've never heard of a head on involving two motorcycles before.

Motorcycle riders killed in head-on crash near Marysville - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

But when you see how the road twists and dips through the forest, you can understand it is a motorcyclists heaven.

    Ah.......
Adelaide hills. Lots of twists and dips.
I'm beginning to see a pattern here.
The posted speed limit is too high.
