Mid-to late 1970s Metal Work Textbook NSW

    Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone studied Metal Work in Year 10 in New South Wales High School during the late 1970s? I went to a public school.

I am trying to track down the text book. From memory it was a soft cover in a sort of powder-blue. I have thought back on the book and remembered the hand drawn graphics and what a vast area of the skill the book covered.

Can anyone fill in the gaps of who wrote and published the book - including its title? It would be great to get a copy of it again.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Hello Toxic Avenger & Others,

I just found and bought an earlier edition of the book that I remember. The only difference that I can see is that the earlier edition had a red cover. Once I saw the photograph of the front cover I recognised the font and the every understated title.

The book is called Metalwork for Technical and High School Students, written by A.L. Hughes & K.R. Morgan. The first edition was published in 1945 and revised again for publication in 1975. It must have been revised yet again when I was in Year 10 in 1978 which featured the cover changing to blue.

I just did a quick search for when Metric measurements were brought in. It was 1974, so the blue covered version that I used in Year 10 may have been upgraded to comply with the new system of measurement.

The book will be shortly wending its way to me...courtesy of Australia Post

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Hello Hall,

Thank you for posting, Hall. Could you please extend your arm a bit more and take some photographs of the blue book? Could the new photographs be similar to the ones of the red covered version that I posted up?

I have been to a couple of library online catalogues and it looks like either the ISBN might have changed; or the blue covered edition had different authors; or the title changed. Searches for the "all editions" of the red book only show between 1945 and 1975.

I would like to confirm the date of publication and the title on the front cover of the blue covered book so I can track it down.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
