I also think the reinforcing of the Rangie being the premium model is why the new Disco has a one piece tailgate as the split tailgate is reserved for RR.

The three tier model range is pure marketing spin.Land Rover are only interested in the luxury urban adventurer market. If the next Defender is a 'utilitarian' workhorse, I'll eat my hat.

I figure discrepancies between models in the ranges is mostly a product of budget and opportunity constraints. My guess is that over time things will get more consistent.

If the new defender has an ingenium 4cyl with an alloy monocoque and four wheel independent, and has similar capacities to the mainstream dual cabs in aussieland, then it could snatch at the premium end of the market, and be a base i could create a beast from.

Thats not what McGovern said,or what ever his name is.

He said they attract rust, and they can't get the fitting of them as good as they would like.

Which is a load of absolute crap,to say the least.

The real reason is the vehicle(discovery) is now competing against Volvo,Audi,BMW,and other soft roaders that have them.

The D3/4 set up is extremely handy, and well thought out.

    Exactly

Those that are dreaming of solid axles,Blah,Blah, are doing that, just dreaming.

I still can't work out how an Evoque ever got to be a RR.

In my opinion, the models look way to similar, and will cause confusion for the average JO public, who are the market they are targeting.

I have a defender and dont give a rats
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

If they made a defender that would accommodate myself and my family with relative comfort, i would be all over one. But until that day, i will drive my LSE.
