I agree it's odd that it does that. You'd think, that being engineered for Cat 1, it would fit and word with any Cat 1 equiped tractor. If you're a welder, you could extend the hoop that fits to the lower arms. Just get some same sized tube, cut and shut. You'd be best to do a mock-up with sticks first to get the length correct.
And when you've go it going, and you've bored the holes for the trees, make some deep scores vertically down the holes, so the little roots can dig through the glazed hole walls instead of going round and round inside the hole.

most farmers over here store them with the auger dug into the ground a foot or so beside the barn and if lucky they get an old tarp thrown over them. As far as adjusting height, never had that problem with the ones I have borrowed, tractor from one place and auger from somewhere else

Did they give you a long ram with it , does the tractor have remotes .

No remotes... the linkage just lifts it up, and they drill themselves into the ground. Most post hole diggers down have rams that I am aware of (note: i know next to nothing though!).

Maybe being a Ford digger, it designed specifically for Ford tractors (just like fergi post hole diggers need the double top pin linkage on the back of the tractor)

Yes ... of course. This is an easy fix. I just went googling the things to see why it doesn't happen with other post hole diggers.



The hoop is adjustable. All I need to do to make the hoop adjustable on this one ... is a plate of metal... say 20 x 40cm... With a series of bolt holes drilled in it ... So I can just pick the holes appropriate for the tractor. The digger frame is C section, this all just bolts together, so I won't even need to weld it. I can just bolt the plate on by the ends (outside of the adjustment hole range area).

Thanks... I'll fix that up ASAP and make it all adjustable!

Had exactly the same problem with the old digger that came with MF165.

Worked fine on that, but had me head scratching when I tried to put on the Deutz.

The dimensions and pivot points on both 3PL's are quite different. Had to modify the bit that goes on the lifting arms in a way that's reversible so I can use it on both tractors.

I reckon in the original design the 3pl is just used as a mounting point and is put in float mode and the auger is moved up and down with the ram. Should work fine with the modifications that you propose though. We have a Digger brand post hole digger that has a down force ram but it operates differently with the 3pl just being a fixed mounting platform.

What, you never had a bit of pipe welded to each side up near the auger for 2 people to sit on to assist in it digging or was that just me...
