I agree the family should have been told that was what would happen. It should be stated in the funeral agreement.

I hope they're properly sterilized to prevent passing on potentially fatal germs.
Most funeral services exploit the grief period to inflate prices.
Cardboard coffins are dearer than pine.
In true Land Rover style, how about a DIY chipboard or MDF jobbie?

Recycle bin would suit me , but I bet it wouldn't be allowed. Next best something from IKEA, a self build or just use the cardboard box ⚰️

As a carpenter mdf or chipboard is probably what will kill me. Dammed if I'll be buried in it 😎

Any handles, fittings,etc, are often removed before the coffin hits the furnace....

I think the coffins are only wood veneer, they wouldn't be solid wood even at the prices they charge.
Then after cremation are your ashes mixed up with other peoples ashes. A friend who worked at a cemetery and crematorium assured us that the furnace is swept clean after every cremation so no other peoples ashes are mixed with yours. Other wise if it was mixed and you are stuffed into an urn and put on the mantle piece would you want strangers talking to you would you. Then another co worker I worked with he worked at a funeral home. He told me during preparation of the body, if an autopsy had been performed and the brain was removed, newspaper was stuffed into the void. One would hope for a decent Land Rover mag to be used for better reading.[thumbsupbig]

Plastic bag, to keep in the leaky bits.
