Qld farmers are being well and truly shafted by Golden Circle cannery , used to be a farmers co-op ( now owned by Heinz Foods USA). Farmers have been offered next to nothing for there crop making it uneconomical to transport. Heinz continue to put Produce of Australia on the can even though only 20% of the pineapple is grown within Australia. The rest comes from overseas at a very cheap rate.

It is disgusting, but having said that it was a Co-operative, farmers got greedy looking for a quick buck and sold out. Same with most other Co-operatives when sold into private hands they are going to maximize profits.

It was originally called a Chinese gooseberry and now grown in a lot of places around the world, NZ company changed the name (not related to the gooseberry family) seeds were introduced to NZ in 1904 from China
