Southern QLD in Feb - am I mad?

Mulling over a few options for a 3 week jaunt ex Wollongong NSW in either Feb or April

One of those half-baked ideas is to boost it to The Warrumbungles and Lightning Ridge, then meander through Melbourne Storm feeder country, perhaps as far north and west as Longreach and as east as Bundaberg.

Will flies and insects drive me mad? Will I be too hot to care? Or will I suffer excruciating death via toxic jellyfish?

With a bit of luck you'll get a cyclone, that'll keep the flies and bities down.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Don't think you'll find many toxic jellyfish in Longreach.

Hmmm, not going as well as I’d hoped. Southern QLD in Feb - am I mad?

You'll be fine. Have a great trip. Visit lots of rivers for swims to cool down. Don't drive at dawn or dusk because some roads could be covered in critters large and small.

Yes you're mad, but that's the way we like it!

Land Rovers can go anywhere anytime. Hot, wet, cool, storm, tropical edge...what's not to like?

The idea that all travel should occur within the nominated 'perfect weather' window is for soft-roaders LOL.

It will be warm, but it is Qld, after all.

As earlier, watch for wildlife dawn and dusk. Having said that, I usually try to finish the days travel by about 2 pm, setup camp (pref near a waterhole for a nice dip), and relax in the shade. It is a holiday, isn't it?

Summertime out there, I usually plan my travel arouind 300, or no more than 400 klms per day. Take your time, there's a lot more to see than just the bitumen and white posts whizzing by!

Jellyfish won't be a problem until you get quite close to the coast.

Flies can be bad in cattle country, just learn to talk and eat with your mouth closed, or only have a feed in the half hour between the flies clocking off, and the mozzies clocking on (Opposite in the morning, of course)

At least you won't need to worry too much about grey nomads at that time of year.

Oh yeah, remember that no matter where you start from, it's a bloody long way to Longreach!

    Have fun!!!!

Your only problem is the time line. Three weeks? You wont get to Longreach, and back.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
