After reading that the rego number isn't yours...rules out mis-read plate. Do you have any friends or family in NSW who know your name and address...and who might have given false details when caught? Although, it would have had to have been a sloppy copper for that to happen, as they would need ID to back it up, especially considering you are interstate.

    Update
long time on phone, make that a bloody long time
I searched the rego number in different states and found the plates belong to a lancer I deregistered on 30 dec 2015 in WA. The plates are now on a mirage in NSW, my lancer was silver, mirage is white. It seems the plates have been passed on by a wrecker (car was stolen and wrote off the day it was sold), After talking to WA transport my name will always be associated with them plates even though they are delicenced. Half the bloody mess is sorted out, not so worried about identity theft now but still need to go down the police route
    cheers

Irrespective of the results of working with your local police - you need to take Option 2 or maybe Option 4 on the back of your infringement notice. If you do not get the Ok to get off the hook by NSW this will follow you for ages and keep coming back.

I received a NSW fine a few years ago, but it had a picture of a Ford Falcon- same plates numbers as mine. I sent a picture back of the Land Rover, showing plates ( & Labrador with head out of the rear window) & a note saying " does this look like a Ford Falcon??"
I assumed that there were plates with same numbers in other states, either way, I never heard anymore from them.

Never pay a camera fine without seeing a copy of the photograph, unless you are 100% sure you were at the location and speeding.

I have lots of these photos with some really nice cars I've owned over the years,

Used to cost $7.80 and Sgt Glen Ritchie was patient enough to sit by the side of the road and take every one.

Now they're free to download! Kinda.

Did you mean Sgt. Get Ritcher

I see with Victorian Traffic Camera fines you can now login with a fine "obligation number" and view the photograph on line.

    Cheers, Mick.

I found out some years later from a retired deputy commissioner that any infringement had to be 'signed' by an officer and said Glen Ritchie was the man. He didn't actually take the photos.

Used to be based in Werribee I believe.

    cheers, DL
