Owwwww!
I really don't trust old ladders, I'm about to retire my Bailey 6' extension steps, they're just getting too unstable.
I had a rather nice but old set of wooden ladders, used to be my father in laws. Up 3 meters cleaning out the gutters and one of the rungs gives way, followed by a few more on the way down. Progress slowed by several hits in the gentlemans area on the remaining good rungsMemo to self - dont trust old wooden ladders.
cheers,
D

Yeahhh,,, ouch.
Although, it sounds like a good cartoon/comedy skit![]()
Apparently the most common injury cause for +40 males is falling off ladders.
Mate of mine did just that and I think broke a collarbone.
So I am paranoid and have 200MM square pads bolted to base and HD shelf brackets attached to Barge boards at ladder width.
Still at 68 I am getting sick of getting up on the roof to replace tiles broken by my gums dropping branches.

Hi,
With a 5m, 2 story brick house to maintain and some long ladders to do it, I use as much protection as I can.
The brickie left ventilation gaps at a convenient level, so I made up some steel strap that locks into the gap and I ratchet strap the ladder out either side to these.
Rock solid!
Using 2 ladders and a plank on a rig I made similar to one I saw a sign writer use, I can cover most of the windows, eaves etc quite easily.
The safety takes longer to set up but it is better than falling.
Cheers
Yes, I'm almost at the age where ladders are out, for getting on roofs, etc. A few steps up a stepladder I'm still ok.
Dad nearly died (a few years before he actually died) when he fell through a bit of laserlight on their carport roof tring to fix a leak. It was a long way up too - over 3.5 meters at that end. Only thing that saved him was he landed on the car underneath. The Ambos came and were carefully removing him to take him to hospital and all he could say was 'Look what I've done to the ****ing car!!!'![]()
