The only reason I can think of for sending chassis and running gear only to Africa is for conversion to safari, game viewing type vehicles, although most of the ones I've seen use most of the body panels anyway.
A friend of mine has a tilt truck and moves cars all over the place for folk.
he commented hes been moving a lot lot land rovers lately. "dragging them out of paddocks and back yards"
So I assume hes talking about series land rovers.
He says they break them up and seperate the panels from the chassis.
the panels are on sold to and american connection, and the chassis, engine and running gear are stacked in 20 ft containers and exported to africa.
they must have use for the old landies there.
I know on u tube you can see lots of them still in use as freighters and people movers, some of them 40 years old and still going.
has anyone else heard anything?
cheers simmo

Don't know why to Africa, it is a rust free location like Australia. More likely over to the UK where their local stock has rotted through salted roads and the demand is very high.
I read somewhere that African mechanics are really in love with leaf spring suspension. Perhaps they get the leaf sprung chassis to stick them under coiler bodies.
A couple of Years ago I advertised a MineLab 4500 detector on eBay and there was a bidding war, sold for well over what I paid new .
An African bloke came with a case full of cash, saying he was buying up Gold Detectors to export to Africa, He also saw my wifes old 2WD Hilux in the Backyard under the pine tree & said he was buying up those as well, offered me well over what it was worth but I thought it was a bit sus so said we were still using it , Doh !
When i was in Tanzania, i did trip out to Ngoro Ngoro crater which is a huge crater from a meteor strike and has formed a natural zoo with different habitats thoughout. There was 12 of us in 3 vehicles, an old toyo troopy, a series III and a V8 110 Defender. I was lucky to quickly get in the Defender for the 3hr drive to the crater, as you can image the roads were terrible and littered with wrecked vehicles and trucks picked clean to a bare shell.
Our driver was head driver so he would gun it past the other vehicles then let them overtake only to gun it past them again to be in front, i couldnt imagine what is was like for the passengers of the leaf sprung vehicles.
