our thoughts are with you Mario, we hope for the best for you

we also hope that your doctor or someone at the hospital has advised you of possible eligibility for the Commonweath CAPS scheme which can provide a non-means tested allowance of (I think) about $600pa. for essential catheters etc. Doesn't cover it all by any means but it can help.

there is also a non-means tested carer allowance of about $60pw that Heather may be eligible for if she is looking after you while you are unwell -

Hi yes we know about the payment but it can take up to 12 month to be approve, when he saw the heath nurse she as done the forms and now we wait. And yes I do get a SMALL PART carer allowance since the accident at work 10 years ago. Before we had open our business. Which means he can go and lie down when his back gets to bad. All work covers Drs that he was sent to (and that was heaps) said that he would never work again. I have him 24/7 days looking after him Had to wait 12 months for that as well. Now we have more to worry about now, but we will get through it, thanks guys. Heather

First big step to recovery is getting home!
Looks like quite a few of us are feeling the effects of overwork in the earlier years.
Keep yer chin up, Old Mate, they reckon worse things happen at sea! (That's why I joined the Army, not the Navy)

Hi John, there's worse off then me out there. lying in hospital gives you a lot of time on your hands to reflect and think about the future and what its play on your mind. I had a bit of a chat to the Chaplin and social worker, she has an amputee lost her leg at 17 to bone cancer, she had a pretty positive attitude .

On the second day in hospital I got really fired up , Heather notified me of an email from some one on Aulro face book expressing interest in buying my business after hearing I was in hospital

DeanoH visited me in and in his twisted weird sense of humour brought me in a mini bar bottle of black label JW..

I had a 70 yrs old women in the room next door with Bipolar, she would go ape droppings and scream threaten to kill the staff and their families, burn down their houses etc, was going to get the hospital closed down.
She yelled they were trying to poison her. then a calm voice would come in and she would chastise herself.
The nurse told me they were just trying to give her panadol!
As I was recovering and able to walk with a frame I would do a lap or 2 of the ward, I passed her in the corridor where she sat in a wheel chair reading her bible. She would offer me the bible. I said I couldn't read but thanked her for the gesture. She asked what the frame thing was and immediately asked the nurse for one.
My last day I walked past her and she told me she had s note for me. i was covered with love and kisses and had her address and phone number on it and asked to keep in touch, she said she was available.
I think she confused me with DeanoH, so I will pass it on to him.

what the nursing staff put up with and the double shift in a dsy why would anyone do it unless they are so passionate and dedicated.
I was emabarassing when your 59 and a young bubble 18yrs old nursing aid comes in smiling and wants to shower you and help with personal hygiene.

DeanoH commented how lucky I was to have all these spunky honies looking after me.
It was a real SBS of staff there, all treated me with respect and dignity. Every day a different crew of faces, I had Africans, Canadians, Malays, Indians , Indonesians, Filopinos, Islanders, indigenous , every Asian country, some with hijabs. some with beads, all young and dedicated to the job, smiling when asked, they all told me they loved their job.
    cheers Mario
