Jeeze! I can recall conversations going back many months (after my enquiring about how he was feeling) and he’s truly had a gruelling time. The good thing is that the medicos now have a handle on what’s been happening with him.

Kidney stones are a killer. The pain is unbelievable. Ive had a few episodes of them the worst had to be operated on and destroyed. Peeing blood for days after, then having the looooong stent removed 2 weeks after was not a nice experience either. More blood peeing for couple days. BUT better out than in. I can now tell if its about to happen and i drink gallons of water. I dont envy Mario. Just lucky it was found b4 it was too late. Get well Mario.

Niggling ache in the kidney area that wont go away. If left it gets more and more painful. I always have probs with right kidney. Aparently i have a genetic prob with that one causing the stones not to pass easily.

You start getting pains in the kidney area in your back. this is usually the stone moving, some are lucky and can pass it by drinking lots of water to flush the kidneys.
Once they become stuck its like a hot knife being twisted into your kidney. You keel over and scream.
Morphine is then your friend as the pain is that bad. I had 2 previous visits over the years for renal colic ( kidney stones,) was put on morphine drip for pain, I managed to pass the stones so no further intervention was needed. Trouble is if you have had them before you risk getting them in the future.

Thanks Mario, I had an ultrasound for gall stones a while back, they saw a small kidney stone...so after that I drank lots of water, lemon juice, olive oil etc...don't know if I ever got rid of it.

I greatly increased the amount of water I drink, starting the day with a full glass etc. Made a big difference.
The doctor said most people are continually dehydrated because they don't drink enough water.

I have been through this a couple of times. It is exactly as Mario describes about having a hot knife stuck into you!

The big problem with them is when they move into your ureter and block the flow of urine to the bladder. My Doctor at the time had done a lot of research about them and in my case blamed the quality of the water supply on offshore rigs where I was working at the time. There are several different types of stones, and to determine what was causing it he had me peeing through an old nylon stocking or pantyhose to try and catch it!

He also put me on to using baking soda(sodium bicarbonate)mixed with water to drink. Eventually caught the offending item which he sent for testing. Dehydration is definitely a major cause of them forming though. The second time it happened I was regularly flying a helicopter with a big glass "bubble", and not getting enough water during the day.
