Electric cars are going to be enabled with smarts beyond anything familiar to old Landy nuts, so the driver/car will book a spot at an available charger as required. Not saying it will be perfect but 20th Century thinking about queues won't be on the list for most electric vehicles.

I can't see why most homes can't have a 15A outlet [thumbsupbig]
Electric cars may be a Great idea for the City or town driving But they would be pretty much useless in the Bush where there are Bugger all charging facilities.

Hi,
I read somewhere of a box with some smarts in it and 4 x 240V inlets for home charging.
If spread over four 15Amp fused circuits, and no other significant load running on any of the 4, it enabled rapid charging.
No doubt it will one day be a building requirement to have at least one charging outlet for new houses.

Going into the future, we will have to undergo a paradigm shift in how we think about power generation & usage, plus RAPS, etc. Current technology and especially current thinking certainly won't cut it. There is just not enough power generation available in the short or medium term for all the electric cars planned. I think John Cadogan (amongst others) has covered it in previous YouTube vids/rants.

Mass=safety you won't get the mums out of the tanks in a hurry. The tight streets around here should be a problem for them but they make it work.

Yep. The Tesla already plans routes exceeding its range to go via charging points.

And at Tesla’s own Supercharge stations it even connects itself.. just park and walk away.


Won’t be a problem as the take up continues... the pumps at servos will sell Dino and the car parks will all have power dispensing points.

Just so long as my taxes aren't subsidising it, and what I'd like to see, is that all these charging stations are ONLY connected to "green" power - no fossil fuels allowed in the provision of that electricity! [bigrolf]

Charging will be possible wherever there is power available. At home, at supermarkets, caravan parks, tourist destinations, at lamp posts, at work, etc. Smart charging will tailor the charging currents to the available infrastructure. Battery charging can be done at any rate, you just need to let the charger know what's available. Charging at home is the way many early adopters' cars will be charged as they usually have bigger houses with room for solar panels and likely some home storage too. On street charging for unit dwellers etc is already a reality in some European countries and will come here when there is a demand for it.
