Thread: DPF's the end of diesel cars in cities?

I guess any city government which refused to act to stop people being injured and killed by diesel emissions would leave itself wide open to being sued by consumers who had the medical proof their illness was caused by the emissions. A class action could result in massive damages findings, similar to what happened with cigarettes, which could bankrupt cities. Public liability insurance would not cover a government which failed to take reasonable precautions.
It's ironic that VW, by trying to cheat the emissions tests to encourage sales of its diesel vehicles, has scored a spectacular own goal which might hasten the replacement of diesel with electric vehicles.

At the end of the day, there is no political discussion in the general forums no matter if 1 persons or everyone understands the post. The concept is not that difficult IMHO.
No, Paul. I was actually asking a question. I repeat, I agree with the policy. What I was asking is, and I'll ask it again in simpler terms, is "how is 'political' defined?". I see whole threads on here that I consider to be 'political', and no one bats an eyelid. I look at my joke, and I see something harmless. I accept that some people would see that joke as being of a political nature, and I have indicated that back channel to the Mod that pinged me. But I return to the definition thing. Can AULRO please supply a comprehensive guideline as to what is considered to be 'political'?

    Good luck.

I didn't keep receipts , off the top of my head
    motor and controller $7500
    batteries $10,500
    battery boxes $1000
    charger $1200
    cable $ 150
    adaptor $1000
and $2000 in bits and pieces

Its very possible to purchase a Tesla drive unit , but that would not be suited to a 4x4 application , That unit will replace an IFS rear end on a 2WD car Tesla cells are not appropriate to a LR conversion , Nissan Leaf cells would be better . In USA there is an abundance of salvage EV parts but not here . There is not much of a market for them apart from DIY conversions.

Typical; price of a salvage Tesla drive unit would be US $15,000 and US $3000 for used Nissan Leaf batteries , plus import fees, but a big gamble.

I agree, in principle. But wouldn't it be nice if we KNEW? I'm a little bit tired of being done for something that could be construed as esoteric. Happens all the time on airy fairy blogs, but I find it sad that it happens here.

All is Good Mate don't stress over this, The World is still turning.
For myself it's really not that big a deal, I am new to this site and as far as I am concerned it's all just a part of a learning curve

I once got done for mentioning Medicare in a post. Apparently Medicare is political. Who knew?
Some people would argue everything is political and others would say only parties are political. 'Political'is defined as 'about the government or public affairs of a nation.' The government bit is obvious, but public affairs could cover almost anything. Air pollution is 'public affairs' so it could be argued this thread about DPFs is political - I hope not.
Anyway, I'd say it's probably impossible to define what is political and what isn't, so I'd say just leave it alone

Am reminded of an old saying a philosophy professor used to be fond of repeating: "A text without a context is a pretext"

Saying "I got pinged for mentioning "medicare" in a post" falls completely into that hole. (No need to go into the context here please! Am not asking for that.)

Johntins has written well about how different people may have different views on what is "political" in a set context. Thats just life. My context isn't necessarily your context.

So I hope you all allow me to comment that my view on airing mod-grievances here in this thread (or anywhere outside of the provided forum) is really not good form.

Reminds me of another golden oldie saying: "Never complain. Never explain"
(uncertain of attribution but maybe this expresses it well: Never Complain; Never Explain | The Art of Manliness )

Mindful of the above (context is all important, and varies from person to person) - just let the mods be and refrain from the passive aggressive complaining/explaining outside of the proper fora
