Gas and Electricity Bills - what to look for when changing suppliers

I’ve been with the one supplier forever......

Is their a food comparison website?

Anything in particular I need to look at in the actual bill......

What can catch me out?? In changing.

    Cheers

I did a comparison last year. I set up a spread sheet with various times periods and fixed charges and using a bill with our quarterly usage plugged in the various rates of a few retailers. For us the biggest saving came from the discount given for payment on time! We ended up staying with the robbers we had.

Periodically companies and even my own company try to get me to change and for my own company, to change plans. They offer this discount and that discount.

    I look at:
    Their daily charge
Their usage tariffs-prices and amount used before it kicks up to the next level in price
Their solar feed in price(I have solar)
    And finally their discount offered.

99% of the time, I find that it may look attractive, but when you add up the above factors, I am better off with what I have. But I have gotten my plan that way, by checking out the above.

So do your sums, look and compare, look at your usage. You may well be paying too much...or you could be on a good thing...but don't let the companies themselves bluff you....after being on the phone to me for a while, most say "It sounds like you know more about it than me...I will leave you with it".

Comparison services do include every company, only the ones that pay them commissions so really you don't get a full check.

It appears the supplier I’m with it the most competitive for supply both Gas and Electricity.....that with the pay on time discount which I haven’t been receiving. 16% for electricity and 6% for gas.

If you in Queensland and with origin check your bill to see if you get a discount for paying on time. We rarely miss paying bills on time.

I cans get small saving buy using separate suppliers for gas and electricity but decided to stay with origin.

If you are on a good screw with solar feed in price (govt sub) you may void the subsidy when changing.

You won't void the feed in by changing...but the companies do vary in what they pay...that is the first thing I look at.

I get my bill and it has 2 prices with Energy Aust, one if I pay by the due date and one when I pay after due. I always pay the lower amount on time, only once was I a day late and they billed the differnece to my next bill for not paying on time.
