    Thanks Tombie,

Good to know it's possible to fit a secondary system

I've started to investigate the viability of installing some solar capacity. The local supplier only advocates micro inverters for domestic use which cost around 75% of a panel so I wonder at the benefit although I don't know the cost of a string inverter. The quote today was around $5.6K for 8 panels providing 2.64 kW but I have yet to discuss the specifics of our usage pattern and TOU charging. I'm thinking that 5 kW is more likely to be appropriate costing around $9K installed but I need to know that any expense, let alone $9K is warranted.

A fronius Primo 5kw inverter can be had off ebay for about $2k delivered. Enphase micro inverters can be had for about $180 each. Half decent solar panels are about $300 each. (Note that these are all internet prices, not trade and not retail. I have a quote for good panels and a fronius inverter installed for less than these prices.)

most 5kw systems have 16 - 20 panels so the micro inverters would be $3600. Depends on if there advantages are worth it for you.

I think I've nearly made a decision. Still, if anyone has had any experience with More Green Energy I will happily listen to it

You can talk to Solarquotes, they review installers and although I couldn't see Green Energy in their list it is possible they have data for them.

Why do people post threads in General Chat when there are specific areas for them? In this case, it's Alternate Energies.

That is a good question... I did not try very hard to find that area.

It's great there are so many choices now. Competition at work. We'll definitely be doing an upgrade at Maleny next year. I'm thinking I want to increase our system to at least 5kW and add a battery bank.
