    Hilux crashes into river

'''I'''ve crashed into a river, dude''': Dash cam shows Sydney driver skidding into floodwater

So...based only on the info in the article...was he in the wrong? Do we blame him?

i dont know if he is to blame. i dont know if he's doing the speed limit, but his reaction time is excellent.
i would be inclined not to blame him. what else could he have done?

One moment, Adrian Hastwell-Batten was cruising along a country road in central Queensland, chatting to a mate on the phone . The next, he was in a river."

I'd be curious to know what model Hilux, and if it had ABS. screeching tyres?

I reckon he was travelling too fast for the conditions too .. but I suppose that's just down to different experiences.

.. just another case of "ambitions exceeding capability"

He claims he was doing 80kph in a 100kph zone. No warning signs that the bridge was 1m under water. My pants would be wet even before water came into the cabin.

Classic example for everyone of a situation of too high a speed for the conditions with a bit of lack of attention added (even hands free phones take some concentration away from the task of driving).

It would have been a different result but it could have been a horse, a cow, or even worse - at least there was apparently no loss of life or personal injury.

Unfortunately it has become fairly common for people to travel at a speed at which they can no longer see ahead as far as their stopping distance on winding/undulating roads.

    What County said.

It's an all too common occurrence nowadays where people think theyr'e not speeding, but in fact they are.
yeah, he was doing 80 in a 100 zone, but he crashed into flooded creek.
The 100 zone doesn't compel you to go 100, it's a limit, not a recommendation that you NEED to go 100.
Until people like this realise what it is they are doing, they just going to continue to kill themselves .. and unfortunately other people too.

The fact that he had the accident is enough evidence to prove that he was speeding, or going too fast .. for the conditions .. and his ability.
