    Swedish Death Clean

Maybe this matter has been discussed before. If you Google the subject there are books about it and plenty of discussion. Here is one:-

Swedish death cleaning: how to declutter your home and life

What prompts me to discuss this matter is my wife's comments. Every time she enters my workshop she mutters something like 'look at all the stuff you have, they'll have a lot of cleaning up when you die".

Well a bloke needs a lot of stuff in his workshop, who knows what I have to fix. Can't do without the bandsaw, the lathe, the drill press, the power tools, the gardening equipment and the 15 tins of paint that is sitting on the floor plus all the other bits and pieces. Am I going to have a big clean-up before I cark it, don't think so.

Not really expecting to die soon , but the way I look at things is that if it is time to move on , I like to be packed up and out in as quick a time that is possible. Yesterday I took a pile of old phones chargers etc into the recycling centre. Today I might go through my fishing stuff. Hasn’t been touched in years. This will clear another little corner. Only thing that will NEVER get culled is my record and CD collection. I add to it almost weekly.

Nup no way is my garage going to be neat as a pin when I keel over. It`s all mine ( maniacal laughter ) every bit of it. I will be carrying on a family tradition. Though dad did clean up a bit when he retired. Got rid of the explosives, gun powder etc, several old vehicles. This will give you a idea of how much of a hoarder dad was. Found stuff wrapped in news papers from the1930`s. Had pictures of by planes on them. You just never know when some thing may be useful

Why bother clearing out your stuff when the Kids/Grandkids will no doubt empty the shed/yard/spare room/veranda of all your hoards in no time and they will have a ball doing it

By end of week all my workshop will be sorted.

There’s plenty of projects on the go, but each one has its own Space and all the parts etc are stored on a plethora of Dexion racking in big tubs.

I can locate all the parts, tools, spares in minutes.

If a tidy desk is a sign of a sick mind, where does that leave you, Tombie?

On a more sadder note, a good friend here in Thailand passed away suddenly a couple of months ago. This bloke was a genius working with metal, and amongst other items, there is two small lathes, a milling machine with rows and rows of cutting tools along with its DRO and VFD drive. A drill press, band saw, air compressor and hundreds of hand tools. In a separate room is a vast quantity of bar stock, assorted screws nuts and bolts, spray cans of all sorts of stuff.

I have the sad task of trying to help his widow what to do with it all. Most of this stuff is imported, and although the milling machine is Chinese, it appears to be of good quality. I have yet to make a full inventory of it all and try and put a price on it. There is only a limited market here for this type of equipment, and although there is a small "club", most people interested are retired and on limited budgets.
