I heard him being interviewed on radio a few years ago.
He said that he hoped he would be remembered for his work as a neurologist rather than for his athletics achievement. He believed that his contribution to neurology was much more important.
Somehow I don't think his wish will be granted.

Run into a gent today who was patting my dog. Chatting it turned up he had run two marathons. His son on the is a bit better than most runners and as a 12 year old he ran 10km in 32 minutes - He will be an olympian - For Singapore rather than Oz I think! I ran a PB marathon in Melbourne a few years ago. His son running the same day did the 5km in just over 15 minutes aged just 15.

I could not help but think 3.13minute pace the young guy got in that 10km or about 3.03 5km PB he has for 5km (Current World record is 2:31/Km ) is still a mile off Mr Banister 2:29. Mr Banister mile is a bit shorter than 5km of course. I would be almost willing to bet the young gent will crack the 4m mile before he is 25 years old. If your running around Latrobe Uni and feel a flash go past it might be him His dad saddly is not running any longer.

Happy with the 45 minutes it takes to walk to work. Three point five kilometres each way. Frustrating when I think that my pace might bring me in a bit quicker but have to stop for road crossings.
