I get those calls at least twice a week and I dont even have an Amazon account.

I wonder how effective it will be and more to the point, the longevity of its effectiveness?

I think I have managed to block (I Hope ) all the numbers they are sending the text messages from , have not had any for a week now .

They aren’t sending them from known numbers. They’re spoofing these numbers.

If you were to call one of them back you’ll often find a very surprised individual will answer.

There are companies out there that buy blocks of numbers then rent them out to companies. Pay to own the number for a period of time from a few days to a couple of months. If you track the number back it will show the owner of the number not the organisation that called. They then rent the number to the next punter. There are legitimate reasons why a real company would use these services however have found a few scammers using them too
