I have also learned that if I hesitate for about a second before I speak that gets rid of at least half of the remaining ones.

I assume all that hesitation gives some other victim time to respond to the scammers automated dialling so my call drops out.
    What's a landline?

Yes, they're ringing 32 numbers at once so the first to pick up is the winner!

I have spoken to customers today and they too got hammered with text messages over the weekend and they didn’t reply to any
One customer got hit with two as we were talking about it

I don’t think there is anyone attached to the number
More a computer generated pain in the arse

But hopefully someone has a look every now and again at the responses only to get a shock (or have a good laugh) after reading my reply 🤪🤪

The autodialler maximises the use of all its lines. If it detects a pick-up it waits a couple of seconds for noise. If it hears nothing it assumes there's no human on the other end and hangs up. If it hears noise it puts the call through to the "first available operator".

Now if it's an unknown number I'll pick up and stay silent for a couple of seconds. If it's a genuine call I'll often get a meek "hello?" from the other end. If it's a machine it just hangs up. It does take some presence of mind to remember "say nothing" however.

Her phone is a few years old now but in the time she has had the phone ( bought new from Telstra ) she has never received an up date from Apple where my Samsung I regularly receive updates. We tried on the weekend to see if there were any updates while trying to install Covid tracking & only got a message the phone is too old at 5years. Will be looking at a Samsung to replace it .

Strange. My phone was discontinued in 2014, the Q code app works fine on it and I still get updates.

It works fine for me............ no banking on it.

I'd go back to the shop and see if they can sort it. Brad C might chime in, he's smart with these things.
