If these clowns that get themselves bogged on the beach had their own winch we wouldn't have to risk our own truck and neck to get them out.
Personally i am sick of doing this as the majority of people that I have draged out of the sand over the years have been half ****ed or just plain clueless anyway.

I am only speaking generally, obviously it worked in the instance mentioned.

In the time it takes for most people to get their snatch strap and bow shackles out of their car and unfurl, and attach to their own vehicle, i reckon i can get to my glovebox to get my isolator key and controller, walk to the front to fit the key and flick the winch to free spool. Then i just walk towards the bogged vehicle.

The way i see it, if you intend to do serious enough 4wding to justify purchasing and fitting rated recovery points, required for safe snatching, then in most cases the original front plastic bumper bar isnt appropriate, and should be replaced anyway. I realise there are exceptions, but not as many as some might think. I am not talking about 'beginners' that are trying to get away with minimal modifications and are exploring these decisions as they go during their first year of ownership, it might take the second year before they lunch the front bumper.
M8 I have had a winch bar in for about 16 years but never fitted a winch. Probably won't. Cheers

Winches these days are incredibly cheap compared to what it was like 10-15 years ago and they are more powerful and reliable than they used to be as well.
I have had an "El Cheapo" Domin8tor 12.000lb unit on my D2a now for a couple of years and it hasn't missed a beat and it has got me out of strife a couple of times along with at least a dozen other recoveries as well.
It has well and truly paid for itself and at less than $400 including the Dynema rope it is one of the most cost effective items I have added to my truck.
As you already have a winch capable bar fitted a winch Is a Great idea and then you can roll up your snatch strap and chuck it at the back of your drawers and forget about it

Does anyone use chains these days? We use them all the time on the farm for pulling everything that gets bogged.

Last year my Dad actually got me a snatch strap for my birthday but the only time I used it was when I got bogged in my Defender pulling a trailer filled with rocks we were picking up out of a field. But I didn’t bother to use it as a snatch strap as we used a tractor to pull me out the swampy ground I had foolishly tried to cross.

The John Deere 6105R certainly didn’t need to worry too much!

As it was I only needed that slight bit of forward momentum to get me going anyway.

I carry a chain in the 2a, but not a snatch strap. The advantage of a chain is that it stores virtually no energy.

I have a chain also, just don’t shock it taking up the slack or you can tear mounts.
