You can tow longish distances with a snatch strap, but the vehicle being towed needs to maintain tension on the strap, by doing more of the braking, and light braking where needed. Its awkward, more so if the towed vehicle isnt running, which is likely, and hence they are having to brake two vehicles with no brake boosting.
And upon completion of the tow the strap should head for the bin!
Someone towed me this way once. When we got to the top of a long hill, he unhooked and said "see you at the bottom". It is the way to do it.
Milk crate recovery tracks! I reckon recovery tracks and shovels are for people 4wding by themself only, one vehicle, pretty much. People jump out and start flailing, but usually get towed or winched anyway when there is another vehicle.

Thats pretty decent, although i think they should clarify the difference between a tow point and a recovery point, and that recovery points are few and far between and what is required for a safe snatch.Quote:

What about using soft shackles? Or using a standard shackle with an extra long soft shackle fixed through the snatch strap end and another point on the vehicle? Kinda like the safety chain on a trailer - if the shackle let's go there is something there to stop it, or at least take some of the energy out of it.

I suspect organisations other than ARB are doing engineered recovery points. They are a fairly expensive, heavy lump of metal. Great, but i recommend winch recoveries instead.
The loads in a snatch recovery are often so high that if you add a load limiting device it will simply be overloaded. Even if it was resetable, it would likely be impractical. Its an interesting idea though.Quote:

Most people are using 8t rated straps when supposedly many could be using 6t rated. Plus, its better for the strap to break than for a tow point to break loose and become a missile.
But i wont advocate for 6t straps per se, because i advocate winching.
