Let down by terrible engines & very poor assembly. The first engine that was just half alright was the 1.6L turbo which was introduced too late to save it.

Perhaps they should change their name to "Hong-den, Hol-deng" or some such, for truth in advertising purposes.

Well, I've just read your post, and I was about to shrug it off, but ya know, what you say has some truth, because although I hate to say it, there isn't a fair dinkum "Aussie Home Grown Holden" any more is there?

Sorry, but that's rubbish. Toyota can export from anywhere, but they have now chosen not to do so from here. Ford and GM ( forget Holden ) could have exported from here, but why on earth would they, when they could export from places where they could make a profit? They both had absolutely massive problems with their deals ( think lifetime medical for all family members of anyone whoever who worked on a line in Detroit, and the cost that imposed ) with unions to even think of continuing here. They needed to improve (!) their bottom line. Who needs the strife? Ford, for one, know the value of Australian involvement, which is why all their Pacific cars are developed here. And all their sub continent cars. They merely build them where it is economic to do so. Currently, this happens to be in Thailand. Good. For too long have we exploited the poor in countries like that. The Ford Ranger, Everest, Focus lines are brilliant cars, built better than any Falcon or Commodore ever was, and Thais get to join the first world in a way they never had before. What can be wrong with that? Unless, of course, there is some sympathy for the pathetic union movement that I have missed. The AMWU made their bed. Let them lie in it. They won't, of course. The new mega union will be their friend. And we are stuffed. Best go to Thailand if you want a job in the auto industry. Be warned though: those buggers know how to work. And they build MUCH better cars.

I pine for the GTHO, but I'm aware that I must move on. The world has changed.

When i was test driving a ranger i noticed that the seat height adjuster was wobbly. Seemed cheap and nasty. So i checked some others, and they were the same. It lowered my impression of the car.

Can you compare that experience with a locally built car?

Update on the Commodore sales at the wife's work is 1 in 6 weeks.

For all we know these new cars are probably a better item than the Oz cars but by the looks of it they won't get a chance to prove it.

It's not "rubbish", it's simply my opinion, to which I'm entitled,....the same as you are.
I have stated my views on this matter in this thread so I'm not going to do so again.
"Unions"...Ya'll have no argument from me, but that is a C.A. subject & I definitely ain't going there.

My experience is that the HQ line interiors were fairly solid, some commodore interiors fall apart, falcon interiors for at least part of the 90's were decent enough or good.

But i wouldnt expect a holden interior to be as floppy as that when new.

The other day i checked out an MB interior and the quality seemed no better than the ranger, turns out the MB was made in the americas for americans.
