Can you tow a loaded 8x5 trailer on a public road with any of these? I still have no idea how racing and performance cars have anything to do with the death of GMH. Drive any Holden, let alone any Porsche thingy to anywhere near its performance limits on a public road will likely see you lose your licence.

You reckon Holden - how long before the end? Call it what it is mate!!! Holden - how long before the end?

    synonyms:
    affected, ostentatious, showy; More overambitious, pompous, artificial, inflated, overblown, high-sounding, flowery, grandiose, elaborate, extravagant, flamboyant, ornate, grandiloquent, magniloquent, sophomoric;

    informal:
    flashy, highfalutin, fancy-pants, la-di-da, pseudo

HSV as a quick example, thrived only on the Pretentious.
The concept of a “Raw High Performance Taxi” is the realm of only 2 cultures - Australian & American. Even the Poms called it an unrefined animal.

Big engines were born of old tech. back in early days of cheap fuel the easiest way to make power was bigger engines.
This methodology was then hung onto by those who love the sound.... yet many of these people ironically complain when the noise pollution of a Honda EU10 intrudes on their quiet time.

Aside from Track days there is nowhere to unleash a 6.2L Supercharged Family Saloon safely or legally on Australian roads. And I haven’t seen many sporting a good old Hayman Reese for the 6x4 Holden - how long before the end?

In many cases these same advocates of thumping engines also quote Green behaviours (not Global Warming), Ironic!

Well, apart from the fact you can't spell, what makes you think I care?? Eevo's are the quickest things with 2 litres ever made for public consumption.

We all care John, remember and the RS Focus owners might not agree with you.

    I hear what you say.
And particularly, in view of our "Nanny State" road rules.
However, We've just come back from a few days away in the GTSR, and there were plenty of occasions when we could enjoy 580HP,.... overtaking is a joy, and "old tech"?...quite possibly, and ya know what?......I love it. (So does Wifey,......when she can get behind the wheel!)

    Pickles.
Name one, Pickles. One. All I ask. The Evo finished less than 18 months ago. Other than the Nissan I already mentioned there isn't a car in that price range that could touch it. I say again, name one. One will do. As a legend in it's lifetime, there is only one car that beats it, and that is the Lancia Delta Integrale. I would put an Integrale up against any stupid Aussie V8 in any race other than a straight line, and Lancia haven't made one for 25 years. If point to point was the criteria, there are only two cars I would choose over the Lancia, and they would be the Evo, and the Nissan GTR. Unless, of course, I was a billionaire, when I would choose the Bugatti Chiron. But mere mortals can have a GTR, or a secondhand Evo. There isn't an Aussie V8 built that can touch either of them, and, like I said, name me a volume car that sells for less than 250K that can touch them. Things like Caterhams don't count.

Maybe you need to reassess just what $250K actually buys.

I love a V8 as much as the next bloke, but even the ZR1 can't touch an Evo. Unless you are a drag racer. But I thought we were talking about real world.

I am a big fan of any Ford that bears the RS tag, Paul. Sadly, Ford gave up any claim to bragging rights here a long time ago. The new Focus RS is a blistering car, but a well kept, 25 year old Integrale will make it look silly, let alone an STI or an Evo.

I would love it if Lancia and Ford picked up the ball again, but those days are over.

The Evo's,WRX's etc did no better than many other vehicles in their price range/class at race meetings such as the bathurst 12hr,and were well and truly spanked by all the sub 250K Euro's. Pat

GTSR? Oh, dear. So many ways to dial up horsepower, and so few ways to actually use it. Enjoy the little 'blat', but spend your entire life watching the speedo. Because your yellow car is only of any use in a straight line, and is probably better off in a nice clean garage so that your grandkids can wish for their inheritance. Pretty much of no use as a car, and maybe not so great as an inheritance either, given it has no racing heritage. Should have bought an A9X.

I mean no disrespect, but a GTSR has less cred than a plastic Walkinshaw. And, there are plenty of things that overtake better than your "alleged" 580HP. An F6 Typhoon will blitz you, because it is torque you need, not power. Those Barras beat your GTSR for torque all day long.

Best thing you can do with your GTSR is put it in a plastic cage and hope it appreciates. I hope it does. Just don't bring it out to prove anything. You won't.
