    Be afraid, be VERY afraid

Google and Facebook do literally know EVERYTHING about you, including all your movements since 2009 and everything you've searched, even if you deleted it. Plus MANY other things.
Who have they sold this information about you too?
    Privacy is dead.

Are you ready? This is all the data Facebook and Google have on you | Dylan Curran | Opinion | The Guardian

Seriously, search yourself on the links in this story and you should be shocked at what is known about you. Seriously.

You know those messages asking you to review some restaurant you have visited? They know where you are. Imagine how that personal information could be misused.
Bank fraud comes to mind. Not a lot of information is needed to create a fake credit card and run up a big bill under your name, destroying your credit rating. Getting it fixed is a big deal.
I know someone who has been trying for four years to get a false piece of information sent to the ATO corrected. It was passed to Centrelink and caused a lot of problems.
Devices are linked now so don't save anything important, such as passwords or details, on any device or it is vulnerable.
I know people scoff about this stuff, but it is very real. People should be shocked.
These companies are relying on our complacency and laziness so they can harvest our information and sell it. This isn't theoretical - it has already happened.

Those links show none of my activity, I have opted out on all settings since I went 'smartphone'. It does degrade my quality of service though.

BUT I suspect all the opt out does is hide my data from view. Im convinced my usage footprint is still on their servers, tucked away for warrants.

Now, with smart assistants constantly listening to what we say, we dont even have to type/tap/click or spend money to be recorded.

Even away from the 'smart' devices, your ISP must log all of your web history for the goverment, as enshrined by law - to keep you safe from terrorists! We let those surveillance laws get through without putting up much resistance. I just hope as citizens none of you are starting to feel powerless.

Even if you trust those with access to your life data, or dont care if your life is looked at without you knowing, at some point there must be a psychological toll. Would you ever choose not to say something on record?

Maybe the future is network connected brain implants that enable us to share thoughts and emotions. Now thats a bit of tech I'd rather be born into than have to transition into!

    Hmmm......
Reminds me of a story this week:
Why defamation doesn't just involve movie stars and media companies - RN - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Everyone needs to think twice about the kinds of statements that might be made about people in a social media environment or in text or in email or on blogs

Know what happens to the paranoid?
They lead a stressed life, always worried.
Know what happens to the educated?
They learn and understand and evaluate the risk.

I have some “nosey” devices in my house, and I can see the traffic they send out and receive... and it’s not what you are claiming in fact it’s like sitting in a room with multiple conversations taking place - you ignore everything until you hear your name...

Gargoyle and Farcebroke may think they know everything about me, but I can just see the smoke coming out of their analytic engine as I yet again fail to click on a single nuisance ad served up by the evil duo. The joys of not being even faintly interested in consumer tat.
