Yes, effectively a very sharp, thin knife with a lot of weight on it. My supplier is waiting for a response from the rep but my biggest concern is to obtain a replacement ASAP. I would normally have bought 5 to allow for the demise of one but I retained 2 very worthwhile BFG spares in case the AT+ don't survive well on a trip, although reports have been surfacing for a while now that they do.

It appears that I've been lucky in one respect in that the size is out of stock in Oz warehouses but one was found in Brisbane. My acquiring a set last September from the first shipment appears to have been a good idea.

    Road and beach

Hi all, thanks for all the great information on here. Seeking opinions on best currently available tyres for the D4. Can’t extend the budget to get a set of 18s, so sticking w 19inch options. I have been happy with the factory tyres but they are on the way out. Will be 80% highway driving and 20% beach based terror! Not really into difficult tracks, just getting to bits of the surf that others can’t. Seems the maxxis 980 has prob the most heavy duty, but that the pirelli scorpion or cooper ltz might be the best for the role that I need it! Any advice welcome.
Would it be outrageous to get highway tyres again? Are A/T tyres that much better in the sand???!

    Hi Laurie

Last year I had to replace my two back tyres which were Pirelli Scorpion ATRs (19 inch) on my D4. I didn't go for the ATR+ then as I thought they might be a bit noisy on the highway as I do mostly highway driving. Last month I had to replace the front ones and I bought the newer ATR+ as the previous ATR were not available. So I now have newish ATR on the rear and ATR+ on the front. The ATR+ are much chunkier but amazingly they are not at all noisy on the highway. I can see why they have less propensity to aquaplane than their predecessor. I'll be buying the ATR+ in future as they are a good match for my 90%+ highway driving. They will be fine for sand. I think for sand tyre pressure is the more important factor than tread pattern.

A set of D3/4 RRS 18" rims can be got for in the order of $100/rim from my limited research, and as noted earlier in this forum half worn ex LC200 and similar tyres can be obtained reasonably cheaply, so maybe if you were able to save a bit, a solution might be not so far a horizon?

Gavin I was under the impression that the d3/RRS 18 rims wouldn’t fit on the D4s that came with the 19s due to the brakes?

Nope I'm assured they fit. They'd better, I just put a brand new 697 onto one as my spare!!!! And I have 4 x 18" on mine.
Seeing as how I had a win looking for a Mitch hitch today, I'll pass on some info for you. See PM so I don't run foul of the mods and for sale info.

Actually, my 2010 D4 has the smaller brakes, (bigger brakes in about 2013?) so you might be right if you have a later one.

    Let the gurus commence!

2.7L D4 could take 18" but 3.0 D4 could not without modifications - lots of discussions in other threads.

There are 18" wheels by a company called tuffants that are specific for the D4 with the larger brakes that came with the 3.0 ltr motor. Also RRS pre 2013.
