Cigar Pairing for a Single Malt

    Hi,

Bit of a left of field query but I have a single malt I'm keen to crack but wouldn't mind a cigar to enjoy with. Last cigar I had was a Cohiba when I used to smoke. Probably too much and too costly for me now.

The whiskey is a Sullivan Cove American Cask Single Malt (2015). The recipient is an ex smoker (quit in 2013) who used to smoke - and really enjoy - Peter Stuyvo's 12's. I don't want anything which will blow the back of my head off but a bit of a puff on a nice autumn eve with a nice drop on ice (on holiday in Tassies Huon Valley) would be lovely.

What I'm after is a couple of slow burning, fairly mild, cigars to have with a small glass or two on a couple of occasions whilst on holiday. I don't want to spend more on the gaspers than the drop either.

    Tips would be gratefully appreciated.

    Andrew

Well , here’s my take ......cigar may be nice ( and just about everything will kill you one way or the other )
Maybe try some food pairing , we are heading into wanky territory now !
Dark Chocolate - good CHOC , and tassie has some good chocolate
Slow Roasted pork scratching - spiced .
Pork Crackle from good piggies - again Tassie Food is the best .
    spiced pears / apples .
Rich lamb stew , with potatoes and pumpkin- over a campfire if possible .

ps I know nothing about cigars , enough about whiskey to dangerous and I love food !

Will be in Tassie for Agfest and I’m really looking forward to it !!!

The Best thing to have with a nice drop of Whisky is another nice drop of Whisky after you have finished the first one
If you want something "Smokey" try smoked almonds

Will you be drinking the scotch with dry ginger or cola?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

My advice? Keep the cigar to have with a really good port, if smoking is your wont. The two complement one another.

A decent single malt needs nothing else. A cigar will just interfere with the experience. Here's a question: are cigars made in Scotland? Cigarettes?

You can do both, but they don't mix. You might as well grab a Jim Beam.

Oh, and by the way, that Sullivan's Cove is a pretty special drop, and doesn't need smoke. You also need to know, the Irish and the Americans spell it whiskey. The proper spelling is of course whisky. Even Taswegians know that.

Nope. The Scots will provide a small jug of water, to take off the austerity if the drinker needs it. They will NOT provide ice unless the drinker is American, as is right and proper.

Something I bookmarked a couple of years ago. Apart from the spelling, they are distilled differently across the Atlantic too.

John , Coke is just water with some additives. As for any whiskey it needs something, other wise it tastes like diesel
