Unhappy What's a guy to do?

    Dear all
I'm in need of solace and some practical advice.
Have D5 First Edition. Lovely car. One or two small issues but have done 25000km so far.
Monday, going home from work on Princes Highway, Moriac (near Geelong) car pulls our in front of me (about 30 metres in front).
Luckily he had curtain airbags! Luckily the front of the Disco is designed to soften impact. Hit drivers side at 100kmh minus stopping distance.
He got out of the car without any major injuries.
I just sat and shook. I thought I'd killed him!
    Front of Disco...not very well!!
In three weeks my wife and I are booked on The Spirit to go to Tassie (with our Disco)
We've been given a hire car for now. Was in contact with Hertz today and explained we'd need a 4WD (as thats what we'd been planning to take) for our trip.
Firstly, hire cars aren't covered on the ferry and then 4WD aren't covered on surfaces other than normal tarmac. (We live on a gravel road so technically our hire car is uninsured!!)
Why they rent out 4WD and they can't be taken onto gravel roads???
Any guidance / ideas as to a solution to our dilemma?

Sorry to hear about the D5, glad no one was badly hurt.

There are hire companies that do allow proper use of the 4x4. They will charge more than Hertz and wont be covered by your insurance most likely so will have to pay out of pocket. Talk to you insurer though first if you have other options.

Quick google turned up these guys 4WD Hire Melbourne & 4x4 Rental | Melbourne 4WD Hire but there are quite a few options.

Any pictures of the front end? Great to hear everyone survived. Those intersections near Moriac can be really difficult on sunrise or sunset. Was it the one next to the hotel?
