    Ford BT50 2014-any Ford mechanics

Sorry for the message in general guys

I have female friend on the side of the road with a warning light Indicator

I was hoping there might be a Ford mechanic on the site that might have some ideas.

The car has an oil Indicator light on with a spanner.

The car was serviced 2 days ago the light has just come on. She said when she lifted the bonnet to check oil she could smell burning (smokey/misty) but that disappeared quickly. I did tell her that it could. Have been spilt oil burning off.

Car drives seemingly okay temps fine etc.

It was hard to see her photos of the dip stick we personally think. Her oil looks low considering its just been serviced first pic looked like she had hardly any made her dip it 3 times cleaning each time and best we got was just under half on the dips stick

We think it's just the service Indicator light that needs to. Be reset

Make sure the oil fill cap on the rocker cover is on.

A mate of mine had his left off by a mechanic recently.

The owners manual will have a section detailing what all the dash symbols are and what they mean.

Ford/Mazda have a specified time limit between when the oil is dropped and when it is refilled. Longer than this - less than ten minutes from memory - then the oil pump drains out and can't re-prime itself. Re-priming the pump is a dealer ship matter.

Is it possible that the person changing the oil allowed it to drain for more than the recommended time?

Mechanic knows about that. Turns out the service light can only be reset by dealer or someone with relevant comp. As for the dash warning lights it's not in the book first thing we checked of course.

If it's parked on the roadside, it may not be level, causing a bad reading on the dipstick.

The oil pump (possibly) loosing prime is only on the 3.2lt and is another example of poor engineering to try and meet better emissions standards

The engine would be seized if the time limit was exceeded and oil drained from the pump. Pump can't prime itself, so no oil circulation. I think this can be ruled out.

    Try this:
*reset the service light is as follows.
    Door closed.
Ignition off, press and hold the brake and accelerator pedals (make sure the accelerator is fully down) turn the ignition on (don't start) keep the pedals pressed, after around 25 seconds the service indicator should flash, turn the ignition off and release the pedals. Turn the ignition on and the light should go off as normal, reset complete.
