Gee she's dry in Vic High Country

I received a Telephone call form a mate who works as a fire spotter out in the Vic High Country near W Tree. I asked how things are going, he told me that they have had little rain this year and its so dry up there that the fire restriction season has been extended well into May. Staff are also on hand still. I mentioned that one wouldn't like a lightning strike starting a fire, that's when he told me that his fire tower is the highest point round there and is all metal, he was on shift in the tower when the area had 136 strikes in a 2 hour period and 11 strikes hit his tower whilst he was in it. The Explosive bang was deafening. and scary . He asks me to visit when I'm in the area, I reckon I would have to pack a suit case full of undies in case a lightning strike occurred.

I think the hierarchy at Parks Vic/DELWP might disagree with your mate. Have a look - see link below - at the fires they plan to light within the next 10 days and the fires they have already lit. In some areas the 10 days is up by the end of the week.

Planned burns for the next ten days

We only just come back from 2wks down there and couldn't believe how dry it was and how much bulldust we struck on the dirt roads, it reminded me of outback travelling..... Must have brought home quite a few buckets of the VHC dust in the back of my defender when I cleaned it out....

Yes mate it did thanks..... but we monitored all the uni Temps using one of those infrared Temp Devices and it was quite surprising to see that the uni at the front of the TC always runs hotter than all the others. By an average of 20>25degrees. I don't know if this is always the case or if it's something I did wrong in the installation or a lack of grease throughout the uni. We initially had troubles getting grease in but we eventually did but I didn't see grease come out all 4 caps, only 3.
