    $20 HandHeld UHF - New

    Hi All

Just in case you don’t get junk mail Tandy have a special offer on those little 40 channel handheld UHF radios. $20 yes $20 how cheap is that !

Anyhow if you want one find a Tandy and get one before Monday, (offer from thursday to Sunday - might be WA only ???)

I asked in Dick Smith yesterday and they said as long as I have the flyer they would honour the price as they have the same parent company.

Cheap, but are they any good :?:

The small ones are only .5 watts, not 1 watt and don't carry as far. Great for recovery work, etc.. on trips (especially mine ) but don't carry must past a km in thick scrub and that's if your lucky.

My 1 watt Uniden works okay but only carries about 2-3kms in good open country and about a km in thick bush or in gullies. Must get a vehicle mounted job one day :x

For $20 I still think it's a bargain and I just bought it, they even chucked in a set of batteries!

It'll be good for passengers to direct me over tough obstacles and it can be a spare for me and ok for an occasional trip with friends who don’t have a uhf.
Also I’ve found it necessary to walk a track with someone following in a 4x4 to check the track, it’ll be better than running back or waving.

Your going to find it hard to beat a vehicle mounted UHF (5W) and a good Ariel with any handheld

I've used my 1 watt Uniden for about 5 years and it's still going strong, but I agree you can't beat a 5 watt car mounted UHF.

I've always gotten away with it but it's now becoming a PIA on trips that I lead I don't have a decent UHF radio :x :x :x
