There is only two petrol turbos there .... I'd suggest the series I petrol turbo (onlly one). That way you get the grunty one with nice metal bumpers. The "prestiges" are extremely rare and incredibly expensive when new. They are the equivalent of the "LSE" Range Rover. The wheelbase is longer, as are the back doors. The roof is also higher, so you end up with a lot more space in the back seat (and all sorts of other luxury type fitments).

Ideal would be to grab a prestige....... and a petrol turbo and shove the turbo'd donk into the prestige. The prestiges have a "hydraulic clutch" .... You think "big deal .. most cars do" .... well there hydraulic clutch runs from the high pressure hydraulics, wtih the engine running, the clutch can be depressed with your little finger, and the throw of the clutch pedal is only about 2 inches. I found someone in germany wrecking a prestige, and had them send me out the parts to convert my CX2500 GTi Turbo to the hydraulic clutch ( all others have a cable clutch .. .and in the turbo models its very heavy).

In there time ( mid '80s) the petrol turbos were very fast cars. 0-100 in about 7.6seconds. No boost lag (nothing at all like the saab and other turbos of the time) and the little 4 banger was punching out about 300Nm of torque. Combine that with the staggering comfort and incredible road handling and you have an incredible vehicle. Mine will never be for sale (my father imported it back in 1996 from the UK)

this is what a CX looks like when not cover in dirt and bird ****

If you ever get a chance to buy/drive/ ride in a Citroen DS or CX ..... Jump at the chance. There is nothing else quite like one

You certainly have a passion for the “French” , in my work history there is Citreon , Peugeot,Renault, Volvo ,Land Rover and Subaru .( approx 20yrs worth .....)
im not sure if that qualifies me as a mental patient or machoist.

I do like these , they are like a spaceship and sooooooo French - nowadays most manufacturers take the jelly bean shape which is currently the flavour .

The 80-90’s were when imaginative design- and good design at that got off the ground .

your Red Rocket is full “ French” a true continent crosser ,fast enough ,comfortable and competent .
Enjoy it , they will never make cars like that again .

Citroen, poogoe, Renault, volvo, land rover and subaru ... Now all of those manufacturers have made some incredible cars (and some huge lemons ............ You know, there lemons are probably now the most appealing ).

Citroens all turned to tedious crap after poogoe took them over in the 80's.... There designers must have all been on drugs (there was amazing ... downright bizare stuff they built before poogoe stuffed 'em). If I had to have a poogoe, it would probably be a 205 GTi... Were your Renaults Alpines ? Renault has made some staggering cars over the years.... Same with Volvo ... my uncle had a baby poo brown granny spec 244 slugomatic when I was a kid. When he wore is motor out he shoved a range rover 3.5litre V8 into it .... its still around down in Melbourne decades later.

I figure life it to short to drive boring crap ... so instead I drive fun old worthless ****boxes

I guess beauty's in the eye of the beholder, but for me the lay down misere ugliest vehicle award of all time goes to the mid 60's Citroen DS types. They may have been technologically advanced for their time with hydraulic suspension etc but IMO they set the marque for absolute FUGLY .

I compare the current vehicle trend of sloping back roof to the old Citroens of my youth (with the rear indicator at the roof line) and see this in them all. Even the 'gone to God' Suburu Tribecca and Ssanyong Musso were pikers in 'the worlds ugliest vehicle' comp which again IMO Citroen won hands down which is why I'd never consider thinking of buying a RRS, D5 or other like looking vehicle.

Sorry DC, I guess these are the 'raison d'etre' of your motoring passion .............. shudder

On the other hand I reckon the old 'light 15' is a superb looking vehicle in comparison

When pug took over Citroen they were moving themselves down market so as not to compete with Ford, VW and Opel. This then impacted Citroen as Pug pushed them even further down market so as to not compete with Pug targeted lower market segment. Shame as it was not a deserved place for the brand.

In the last couple of years in an attempt to survive the Korean competition (same price better quality reliability) which had been pinching their customers in large numbers they have dressed up Citroen’s and marketed them on style. Unfortunately the quality underneath is still not up to Korean standards.

They purchased Opel seeking entry to the mid sector customer where Opel, Ford and VW compete. These cars have a higher selling price and so in theory should have more profit margin. Are already claiming they are going to have to reduce quality of Opal cars to bring costs down. Their competition is bench marking Mercedes and BMW for their product so will be interesting to see who is right in the long term.

Yeah I couldn't be less interested in modern cars.... they simply bore me to tears. My sister caravan is for sale at my place (it lives here).... I couldn't believe my eyes when a really tidy Rover 3500 rolled down the drive to look at it. Lovely interior, great sounding (lumpy) engine, proper manual gearbox .... I don't think I've seen one on the roads iin years! Now THAT is a car I could get interested in. Sadly just like citroen CX's they are unloved and unwanted..... Which makes them worthless, which kills off all the remaining cars.
