Just just wondring if anybody recognises what type of spider this is? It was much much bigger than anything I've seen around where I live.
I took a photo of it and sadly one of my shovels fell on it spraying it and a massive number of baby spiders everywhere. I then took another closer photo.
I saw it as it was getting dark moving across the concrete pad outside of my garage. It is very dry here but had a little rain lately.
At first I thought it was a funnel web, but I'm not sure now it is and hoping it is something else.
Cheers

I agree with tact.
It looks like she had a lot of little spiders on her back.

Boom, thank you! I have seen a heap of wolf spiders around but didn't realise they looked like that also. After googling I think you're well on the money with it, thank you!
How this for an interesting aspect and tell tale:
There were millions Ron, they went everywhere! When the spiderlings hatch, they climb onto the mother's back until they have grown enough to venture out on their own. These mothering behaviors are characteristic of and unique to the life cycle of wolf spiders.

wolf spider.
i had one in my house 6 months ago.
i tried to capture it in a cup, but i missed and knocked her, knocking off hundreds of baby spiders.
6 months later im still finding baby spiders randomly around the house.

A pity it 'failed to thrive'. I don't think it would have done anything to you... unless you stuck your finger in it's mouth.Spiders are good.
Don
It's like living in a spiders nest here, there are so many. I have to get the house sprayed so the whol elot doesn't literally get wrapped up in webs. I thought it was a funnel web, which is unusual as I didn't think that funnel webs really lived in this area, but any funnel web around here will be a dead one. I won't miss a million wolf spiders though, I'm forever stepping over them in the kitchen already.

My wife would empathise with you. Migrated to Oz with me a year or so ago and despite being in a 4th floor apartment, that was brand new when we moved in, we get a lot of spiders. Good variety too. She isn’t scared or panicked but she does message me with a pic every time she sees one in the house - asking me “dangerous?”.
Once I was at work in a board meeting and responded too quickly and accidentally left out the word “not” from the reply “...swift spider: [not] deadly, don’t try to shoo it out they are fast and have a nasty bite”
oops!

They help to control other invaders, so spiders are good.
