New or Used? Rimmer Bros is now open nearly 20 hrs a day 7 days a week and I think they are doing a Sth African & Antipodean special this weekend.

I have been exploring a project vehicle idea for quite a while. Trying to get an idea of parts costs? Obviously i would want to get all of this in a bundle.
If i go ahead i would be needing a D3/4 chassis, with high ratio diffs (is 3.7 the max? would be for 35" tyres), complete suspension including arms, shocks, swaybars, steering rack and steering rod, driveshafts, propshaft, tailshaft, D4 size brakes (fitting 18" rims), brake lines, exhaust.
I would not need an engine/gearbox/transfer case, or a radiator.
Not sure about an ABS unit.
So the parts would look a bit like these photos i pulled from the net.....![]()

Start going to damaged and repossessed vehicle auctions. You might need two or more vehicles to get everything. Repos are often incomplete.

I guess there is a rough max price. Take away items sold, add the cost of bigger brakes.
Kinda wondered if any wreckers are on here with an idea of what a wrecker would want.![]()
Just checked all the auctions in adelaide, nothing atm.
you may to go a few auctions as an observer to see how prices run and who is buying. Wreckers have a price limit which is governed by the amount of insurance quality panels on the vehicle. A vehicle with lots of panel damage or a repo with missingpanels may not be terribly inviting to wreckers but suit your purpose.
Are you planning to make a registerable vehicle? You may need to go through the Australian Street Rod Federation. They have negotiated a super good deal with the registration authorities. Check their web site. If not planning to go through the ASRF then you will have an "Individually Constructed Vehicle" which needs to be ADR certified by a certified engineer and comply with the ADR's applicable at the date it is presented for registration. This process is difficult and time consuming and prone to extreme bureaucratic interference (my phrase). I have done this and won't even think about trying again. If you are planning an unregistered off-road special then go for it.

If a registered, running, okay D3 can go for 8k, then a damaged one should go for less than 4k?
I thought wreckers would also factor in the running gear?
Panels, trim, badges etc are where they make their money. Running gear is a bonus. Much of a wreck goes into the scrap bins and returned to the blast furnaces of the orient. I knew guys who would buy unreg. cars in Japan, strip the panels, trim, and jewelry out of them to send to Oz and sell the rest to Jap scrappies. They ended up millionaires.
If you are planning to use the chassis make sure it is not on the Statutory Write-off Register. Save yourself some heartache.
